Word to the Wise
Saturday, September 20, 2014 - Saturday in the 24th Week in Ordinary Time
[1 Cor 15:35-37, 42-49 and Luke 8:4-15]Someone may say, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come back?" [1 Cor.]
People are still asking those questions! Paul is not terribly patient in his answer: "You fool! What you sow is not brought to life unless it dies. And what you sow is not the body that is to be but a bare kernel of wheat, perhaps, or of some other kind....." His response is that we are a different kind of being even though we are the same person. The resurrection clearly brought about a change of some kind in Jesus. Although he could touch and eat and speak, he was not subject to time and space! Paul says, "As was the earthly one, so also are the earthly, and as is the heavenly one, so also are the heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthly one, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly one."
What "age" will we be? Will we see loved ones? Will our favorite pets be "there?" Those are questions I've heard in pastoral ministry. The important thing is to be "with God" and all other "happiness" will take its proper place. Anything else may be interesting speculation, but we won't know until the time comes. AMEN
