Word to the Wise
Friday, October 31, 2014 - Friday in the 30th Week in Ordinary Time
[Phil 1:1-11 and Luke 14:1-6]I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you, praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you because of your partnership for the Gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will contimue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right that I should thnk this way about all of you beause I hold you inn my heart, you who are all partners with me in grace... [Philippians]
I cannot share St. Paul's situation when he wrote his letter to the Philippians - he was imprisoned! But I do share his prayer at the beginning of the letter because it is the way I feel about the Beloved Congregation who provide this opportunity to preach the gospel! In particular, I pray for the friends who created the website RBWORDS where this reflection is posted every morning under the title of THE WORD TO THE WISE. (www.rbwords.com) There are so many others who by their friendship and encouragement enable this task. I cannot be grateful enough.
Every pastor knows that his thoughts about his parishioners are not always those of love! There are challenges and criticisms along the way that sometimes seem uncalled for and rueful times when they are called for! This preaching on the internet has been a joy for me from the very beginning, which I find echoed in St. Paul's words about "your partnership for the Gospel from the first day until now." So, I thank St. Paul for supplying the words and I thank you all for listening. The Letter to the Philippians will provide some great words to the wise over the next few days. AMEN
