Word to the Wise
Saturday, October 17, 2015 - Saturday in the 28th Week in Ordinary Time
[Rom 4:13, 16-18 and Luke 12:8-12]SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2015, ST. IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH [Romans 4:13, 16-18 and Luke 12:8-12] It was not through the law that the promise was made to Abraham and his descendants that he would inherit the world, but through the righteousness that comes from faith. For this reason, it depends on faith, so that it may be a gift..... [Romans] One of the key insights that Paul developed out of his conversion and continued reflection concerned "the promise" that was made to Abraham. What is important here is to note that the covenant made with Abraham was made long before the one with Moses. Therefore, the Mosaic Law was not the means by which a human person was made "righteous" before God, but by faith in God as Abraham showed. The figure of Abraham is important to Jews, Christians and Muslims. We all look to him as "our father in faith" because God promised to make him "the father of many nations." Each of us has his or her own faith journey, but we are also part of a greater "narrative" that Abraham represents. His "DNA" of faith lives on in all who look to him as a spiritual ancestor.
