Word to the Wise
Monday, April 9, 2018 - March 25 - The Annunciation of the Lord
[Isa 7:10-14; 8:10; Heb 10:4-10; Luke 1:26-38]MONDAY, APRIL 9, 2018. THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD [moved from March 25 this year] [Isaiah 7:10-14; 8-10; Hebrews 10:4-10; Luke 1:26-38] “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” [Luke] No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, nor have I lost all my senses (at least not yet and not all). The feast of the Annunciation is usually celebrated on March 25 (that nine month calculation from December 25). This year, Palm Sunday fell on March 25th. But, the Liturgical Calendar will not be denied! So, Jesus will be born a bit prematurely in 2018! Awkward as it is, this bit of liturgical gerrymandering does serve some purpose. It reminds us that the Risen Christ and Jesus of Nazareth are the same person: God Incarnate! The angel Gabriel came to a real woman and she gave birth to a real child who lived and ministered in a real world and died a terribly real death and really rose from the tomb. “The child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.” Jesus did not simply appear on the scene. He had help. Right now, we are that help. AMEN
