Word to the Wise
Tuesday, August 21, 2018 - Tuesday in the 20th Week in Ordinary Time
[Ezek 28:1-10 and Matt 19:23-30]TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2018 ST. PIUS X [Ezekiel 28: 1-10 and Matthew 19:23-30] “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.” [Matthew] These words follow the departure of the young man who went away sad. The young man was not the only one who was amazed. The disciples were, also. They thought wealth was a great blessing and not an obstacle to life in God. Jesus tells them that they will receive more if they give up possessions and family, no less. AT present I am giving some talks to some cloistered Dominican nuns in British Columbia. They have made a considerable decision to give up much that we take for granted. They do not lose their family or sustenance. They will be cared for, but there is much to be said for their witness, which I admire. I have to say as well that I have been well cared for since entering religious life. But it’s not just religious life that is involved here, but discipleship of anyone. What can we do to remove material obstacles to the kingdom in our own lives? AMEN
