Word to the Wise
Thursday, September 13, 2018 - Monday in the 23th Week in Ordinary Time
[1 Cor 5:1-8 and Luke 6:6-11]WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2018 WEDNESDAY IN THE TWENTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME [1 Corinthians 7:25-31 and Luke 6:20-26] Raising his eyes toward his disciples Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours.....” [Luke] Yes, those words are familiar but they are not the ones from the Gospel According to Matthew. These are from the Gospel According to Luke and they are called “the Sermon on the Plain,” because Jesus comes down from the mountain to a level place to deliver these “beatitudes.” Furthermore, they are balanced by some “Woes” for those who are opposite! These are reminders of basic Christian attitudes of compassion for the poor and hungry and bereaved. Direct contact with our brothers and sisters in these situations is a fundamental part of Christian ministry, to which we are all called by our baptism. We will hear more from the Sermon on the Plain to reinforce these beatitudes. Stay tuned! AMEN [Notice to the Beloved Congregation. I am on the west coast of Oregon now for about a week. So WTTW may arrive later than usual for folks east of here! Fear not! It will be sent.]
