Word to the Wise

[Genesis 3:1-8 and Mark 7:31-37]The serpent asked the woman, "Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?"
Oh my goodness, that opening line begins one of the great moral dialogues of all time! And it has been repeated over and over again since it was first said, and not by some talking snake, but by friends and acquaintances and MAYBE by each of us, right? Yes, right! We've all heard it before either from the outside or from the inside. Does God REALLY not want you to do this or that? Why? Is it because God fears that I or you will learn something important - some secret knowledge? Can we argue that WE are as gullible and innocent as Eve and Adam were supposed to have been? Hmmmmmm.......I don't think so, but I know the line of reasoning. We also know the feeling of shame. One might wonder if the shame was from nudity or from disobedience? Was it from vulnerability or from guilt? Our human experiences are being paraded before us in Genesis. We'd better pay attention! AMEN
