Word to the Wise

[Acts 17:15, 22-18:1 and John 16:12-15]What therefore you unknowingly worship, I proclaim to you
. St. Paul's speech to the Athenians is an amazing piece and would be appropriate even in our time to deliver to a skeptical or non-believing audience. The Greeks hedged their theological bets by putting an altar "to an unknown god" in the pantheon just in case there may have been one they had left out and didn't want to offend! Paul picks up on this and uses it as a springboard for his preaching! Apparently he was doing OK till he got to the subject of resurrection! It is worthwhile to read this passage in our own time when a secular/scientific viewpoint has become the "religion" of so many who even consider themselves believers in God. Paul was not afraid to confront those Greek philosophers with their own beliefs. We should be willing to do the same to ourselves and to our culture. What do we really believe? What are we willing to proclaim? AMEN
