[Mic 7:14-15, 18-20 and Luke 15:1-3, 11-32]MARCH 22 - SATURDAY IN THE SECOND WEEK IN LENT
[Micah 7:14-15, 18-20 and Luke 15:1-3, 11-32] by Fr. R. B. Williams, OP
Then let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found...... [Luke]
Oh, how many times we have sung those words: "I ooooonce waaasss lost but nooooow aaaam found; was bliiiind buuut nowwww I seeeee!" They are familiar to us, but do they describe us? Have we ever gone to a "lost and found" site and been relieved to find what was lost, or disappointed that it wasn't? Which of the two sons in today's gospel do we identify with? Can we see the irony that the "lost one" is "found," and the "found one" seems "lost?" Will we refuse. like the scribes and Pharisees and the older son to sit down and eat with the "found lost?" One can hope that the older son relented and went to the feast. In any case, we need not judge him. We can sulk at the door or we can join the feast and suddenly realize that we, too, have been "found!" AMEN
