Word to the Wise
Thursday, June 5, 2014 - 7th Week of Easter - Thurs
[Acts 22:30; 23:6-11 and John 17:20-26]I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.
THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2014 ST. BONIFACE, bishop and martyr
[Acts 22:30; 23:6-11 and John 17:20-26]
I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.
Perhaps with a sigh of relief we come to the final "work" in our long walk through the Farewell Discourse exhibit!. Yes, there will be a very powerful "scene" by our artist tomorrow, but we may find it easier to understand. It will take place after Jesus' resurrection. Nevertheless today's "painting" is not an anti-climax. We experience nothing less than Jesus praying for us. Us? Yes, us! We are the ones who have believed through the word of the apostles and disciples, and there will be others who will believe because of our word! It would include the various German tribes that St. Boniface preached to and who martyred him!
Can we imagine someone coming to believe because of our "word?" It can happen. Otherwise there would be no Christian church! Jesus' prayer has its effect in us and works through us so that the world may believe that the Father sent him. When we leave the Farewell Discourse exhibit today, will we speak of it to our friends and neighbors? Will we even stop by the bookstore in the lobby and casually chat about it with the salesperson, or buy a souvenir book for someone to read? Will anyone come to believe because of our "word?" AMEN
