Word to the Wise
Friday, May 3, 2019 - May 3 - Sts. Philip and James, Apostles
[1 Cor 15:1-8 and John 14:6-14]"Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father." [John}
These words are taken from the Last Supper discourse and were probably chosen for this day because the apostle Philip appears in the passage. The words refer to the power that Jesus gives to those who believe in him. The works that we do in Jesus' name can give glory to his Father. We must not think that we have to do really extraordinary things like raising people from the dead or healing a man born blind. It is in the ordinary goodness and kindness and compassion that Jesus' love can be found and which inspire belief in others. No science can produce those things. Jesus completed his earthly mission and left its continuation to us by giving us the Holy Spirit. The ball is in our court! AMEN
