Word to the Wise
Thursday, November 23, 2023 - 4th Thurs. in Nov. - Thanksgiving Day
[Sir. 50:22-24; 1 Cor 1:3-9; Luke 17:11-19]"Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" Then he said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has saved you. [Luke]
A good thing to ask ourselves on Thanksgiving Day is what we are or should be thankful for to God. Around many a table groaning with food, families may well mention to one another various people or events. i know, in my own case, it would be mostly people - especially the friends whose love and prayers sustain me in my ministry in these elder-years of my life [I am 80!] I am grateful I can sit down at this computer and compose with the help of the Holy Spirit, the words I send out each day. One thing I do not want to do is be one the nine who did not return to give thanks.
The good wish of the Book of Sirach, in the first scripture for today, is one I have for all of you, my Beloved Congregation: "May [God] grant you joy of heart and may peace abide among you." A blessed Thanksgiving Day to all of you! THANK YOU! [AMEN]
