Word to the Wise
Friday, November 28, 2025 - Friday in the 34th Week in Ordinary Time
[Dan 7:2-14 and Luke 21:29-33]His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed. [Daniel] "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." [Luke]
We are creatures of time and space, all of which were created by God. It is hard to imagine a way in which we could exist outside of time and space. "Something" is easier to deal with, rather than "nothing." The words "forever" and "always" can be challenging to our faith. But Jesus has promised us a "forever." Time and space are only the crucible in which we prepare for the "forever" but they form a kind of theater in which each life's drama is acted out.
Our attitude about such big thoughts can vary by the person. In Shakespeare's MACBETH, we hear or read, "T'is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing!" But Jesus' words offer us a far better promise if we can bring ourselves to accept and live by them. The "beatific vision" in our lifetime can be an inspiring goal, but Jesus assures us that this awaits us at death and at the end of time and space.
This coming Sunday, we will begin once more to tell the story of God's plan and the promises made and kept by God. Time and space are our theater to act out our response! AMEN
