Word to the Wise
Wednesday, May 16, 2018 - 7th Week of Easter - Wed
[Acts 20:28-38 and John 17:11b-19]WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 2018. WEDNESDAY IN THE SEVENTH WEEK IN EASTER [Acts 20:28-38 and John 17:11b-19] “They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them i the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.” [John] Jesus’ prayer is for the disciples whom he is sending into the “world.” Pilate’s famous question comes into play, “What is truth?” But that will be a great moment in Jesus’ trial. The identification of the disciple with the truth that they are to proclaim will be like that of Jesus. He is entrusting them with the continuation of his mission. The words in today’s segment seem to tumble over one another, but the message of consecration in truth comes through. The principal task of the disciple is to bring people to the truth, to belief in Jesus as the one whom God has sent. To accomplish this, the disciple must be seen as one whom God has sent. The personal relationship with Jesus is essential to this task. As we continue through the Farewell Discourse, we are challenged to be the truth. AMEN
