Word to the Wise
Wednesday, June 27, 2018 - Wednesday in the 12th Week in Ordinary Time
[2 Kgs 22:8-13; 23:1-3 and Matt 7:15-20]WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 2018 WEDNESDAY IN THE TWELFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME [2 Kings 22:8-13; 23:1-3 and Matthew 7:15-20] “By their fruits you will know them.” [Matthew] I have seen these words quoted above stitched and framed and on the wall of a number of homes! They mark the challenge of wisdom. Some very impressive trees can give little in the way of fruit and some very gnarled trees can bear wonderfully! Part of the challenge is patience, because there are a lot of factors that impact the crop. Some very good trees can have a year when very little fruit appears. One would not want to cut down that tree! I have seen Jesus’ words fulfilled time and time again in my years in campus ministry. Some students show great promise but for whatever reason, the promise remains only that. Other students who are unassuming and don’t attract attention make great contributions. Parents have told me of similar experiences with their children. We are reminded today that the good fruit may take time to show up, and patience teams up with wisdom to help us know what kind of tree we are dealing with. AMEN
